Daily Construction Report
Project: Concrete pad out side Surge Date: 9/14/11
Contractor: I didn't think to ask the name of the contractor
Client: Virginia Tech
Project Scope/Method of construction: This is a small project but it demonstrates something we recently went over in class. They are laying down rebar that has been tied together to form a grid that will help reinforce the concrete pad.

Site: Hammer

Cones
Is equiptment close? Yes everything they need is right near them, and what they don’t have with them they have in their truck which is parked just out of view of this camera shot to the left.

Are there idle workers? No, both workers are doing something
Construction Activities: placing the rebar so that it is not to close to any edges or faces. This prevents oxidization of the rebar and makes it so that the concrete doesn’t ever chip or crack due to the rebar rusting.
Does safety seem to be of importance? The two workers did put up cones so that is a plus, however an orange safety fence can be seen lying on the ground behind one of the workers and that could be put up. The only reason I can think of for the fence not being up, is that it will go up once the concrete is poured so that students do not walk through it.

Hazard Analysis:

Activity Hazard Solution
driving stakes into the ground there could be wiring   or plumbing check the records and make sure
underneath the grounds surface nothing is below that area of
ground
Comments/Remarks: The next time I went back to this spot the project was done. Wouldn’t it be nice if all projects were that easy.

Two men setting up structural steel for ground pad. If the steel rests on
the ground or is to close to the sides or edges it will oxidize and rust
causing the concrete to crack and chip
